Our goal is to educate the rider on how to use natural energy technologies to prevent injury when possible and to decrease recovery time in the event of an injury. CHAFFHAYE COMES TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Hay quality. It’s on everyone’s mind – particularly this time of year when we are getting
late cut hay with reduced nutritional value.
Limited forage often results in health and performance problems.
So what determines good quality forage? Forage must be low in fiber and palatable,
easily digestable, nutritious, and free of harmful components. Early cut hay is best – it
has the highest level of nutrients and is more palatable.
So how do you know if you have good quality hay? Hay analysis determines levels of
crude protein, fiber, mineral content etc. An RFV or Relative Feed Value of 151 or
greater is considered the prime standard for hay quality. Unless you send your hay out
for testing, it’s not likely that you will know the quality.
That’s why The Holistic Horseman has brought Chaffaye to Southern California. Made
with alfalfa (or grass) it is harvested at peak leafiness to maximize nutrients, palatability
and digestibility. Within hours, it is chopped, lightly misted with molasses and
compressed into air-tight bags. A natural fermentation process converts it to a "pre-
digested" feed with live yeast and beneficial enzymes not found in dry hay or pellets.
